Housing for Wounded Warriors

How do I get a home? What is the process?

Operation Homefront’s Wounded Warrior Housing initiative is not a home donation program.  You will still be buying your home, but at a better discount and possibly a better interest rate which we have negotiated for you.
As with any time you buy a home, the first step is to check your credit report. Review it thoroughly and clarify any mistakes to ensure that you have the best credit rating possible.  Good credit is important not only so you can be approved for a mortgage, but also allows you pay less interest.  Good credit can save you up to $500 on your monthly mortgage payment.

Once you’ve checked your credit and fixed any mistakes (and that may take a few weeks), talk to a mortgage lender who understands the military.  While Operation Homefront does not currently have formal commitments to specific discounts from mortgage lenders, there are some who show great interest and help with wounded warriors:

Wells Fargo -- Wells Fargo’s Military Division has a “Military Mortgage Express” program. Go to: www.wellsfargo.com/military or call 877-337-9405

The third step is to start looking for a home.  Operation Homefront has a list of home builders who are committed to offering great prices.  If you do not see a city or subdivision that suits your interests, please e-mail meredith@operationhomefront.net and let her know the name of the subdivision being built and the name of the builder. Then we can track down the builder and try to negotiate.  For example, you might be interested in the “Cranberry Farms” subdivision being built by Johnson Homes in Richmond, Virginia. Information like that is all we need, along with an estimate of how much you can afford to pay

Have a question? Please e-mail meredith@operationhomefront.net or your local chapter of Operation Homefront

Thanks again for your support for our wounded warriors.
