NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Louisiana Chapter of Operation Homefront
announced today that it has added to its Board of Advisors Lieutenant General
(ret.) Russel L. Honoré, best known as the leader of the effective emergency military
response to Hurricane Katrina. The
Lakeland, La. native is a 37-year veteran of the U.S. Army and will provide the
organization with leadership and advice on serving the needs of military
families and wounded warriors throughout the state.
“This is a country and a state that honors military service,” said
Honoré. “We understand the sacrifices
that our service members and their families make every day, so people want to
show their support and offer a helping hand when they’re in trouble. Operation Homefront makes that happen, and
I’m looking forward to joining them and helping them become an even more
successful organization.
“We are thrilled and honored to have General Honoré on our Board
of Advisors,” said Operation Homefront – Louisiana Chapter President Tawney
Tallo. “He is a living legend in
Louisiana and understands what it takes to assist Louisiana military families
and service members in crisis.”
Prior to his command
of Joint Task Force-Katrina, General Honoré served in a variety of command and
staff positions which focused on Defense Support to Civil Authorities and
Homeland Defense. As Vice Director for
Operations, J-3, The Joint Staff, Washington, D.C., and, as the Commander,
