Chase and Operation Homefront Present Home to Marine Corps Veteran
Operation Homefront and
Chase were honored to provide a home for Marine Corporal Eric Hewitt as part of the Homes on the Homefron
t program. Along with the surprise about the home, Hewitt got to attend a New York Jets game where he was presented a key from Chase.
Learn more about Hewitt and his service to his country. Growing up in Bethlehem, Pa., Marine Corporal Eric Hewitt knew exactly what he wanted to do in life. He knew that service to country was important to him, but also that he needed to learn discipline and set himself up for the future. This is why directly after graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves and performed his reserve duty while attending college.
Eric was called to active duty twice and was stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina and after extensive training he was deployed to Iraq as a scout sniper. During his time in Iraq, Eric’s primary mission was surveillance and target acquisition. After a strenuous deployment and five years of military service, Eric was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps.
While in Iraq, Eric developed a passion for the environment and wanted to apply his newfound passion in his studies. He is currently in the master’s program at Harvard University, studying environmental science.
“My wartime experience has definitely shaped my passions and desires in life,” said Eric. “I am studying environmental science because I want to work towards sustainability research. I would like to see America become more clean energy dependent in the future.”
Eric and his girlfriend Christy have been living in Boston the last couple of years because of his studies, but Christy’s job is based out of Jupiter, Fla. Although she can work remotely, she is the only consultant at her agency that does so and the job requires her to travel to Florida often.
“The new home will put us closer to Christy’s job, and allow us to spend more time together,” Eric said. “We will be able to grow as a couple, and as a family in this new place. I am very grateful of Operation Homefront and Chase for this wonderful opportunity.”
