Mortgage-Free Home Given To Soldier at Tim McGraw Concert
Operation Homefront and
Chase were pleased to join
Tim McGraw in presenting a mortgage-free home to U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Zach Williams as part of the Homes on the Homefront program. Williams and his fiance' Neva attended the McGraw concert in Minneapolis recently.
More about Williams:As the son of a servicemember and an “army brat”, Zach Williams was born in Stuttgart, Germany and grew up in countries around the world including Europe, Korea and the U.S. In 1999, Zach was expecting his first son. So that he could provide for his family and honorably serve his country, Zach enlisted in the Army. He was first stationed at Fort Benning, Ga. as part of the mechanized infantry. Later, he was sent to Germany, followed by Kosovo, where he served as a driver during the U.S. peacekeeping mission.
When the Iraq war began, Zach was deployed and stationed near the Turkish border. In 2004, he was injured by a mortar and received a Purple Heart. During 2006-2007, Zach sustained more serious injuries as a result of multiple explosions and was awarded a second Purple Heart. After a year of rehabilitation, Zach started to walk again and was able to resume his military career as a range instructor at Fort Benning. In May 2010, Zach received an honorable discharge and was medically retired from the military.
Having recently divorced, Zach now wants to focus all his attention and energy on his two children. “I just want to try to give them a better life,” said Zach. Thanks to the Homes on the Homefront Program and Chase, he’ll be able to do just that. Currently, Zach lives in Anoka, Minn. with his mother and is engaged to be married. Zach plans to finish school, get married and build a better life for him and his children.
