Chase and Operation Homefront Give Home To Vietnam Vet

Chase and Operation Homefront were honored to present a home to Army Sergeant Ron Baker, a Vietnam veteran. Baker and his family received the home as part of the Homes on the Homefront program.

Read more about Baker:

Ron Baker grew up in New Jersey as the youngest of three brothers. Ron knew what he wanted to do well before he graduated high school because of the words of wisdom passed down from his older brothers about being in the military. They talked often about how great the military had been for them and the training, discipline and leadership that they had learned, saying that it would be great for Ron.

As soon as Ron was able, he enlisted in the Army. After completion of basic training at Ft. Dix, N.J., he was stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., and in Germany and Japan. His toughest assignment however, came in Vietnam where he served as a combat photographer. Baker’s job forced him to see every aspect of the war, but shaped him to be the person he is today, still serving his country in other ways.

Ron makes regular trips to the VA and to other veterans groups and organizations to speak with veterans much like himself, but from all different walks of life. In January 2012, he set up a veterans assistance network and is looking forward to starting a business after moving into his new home in Littlerock, Calif. that will continue his service to veterans.

“The new home will not only give my son his own room, but it will also help us start a business that will be able to provide jobs to veterans,” said Ron. “It will generate veteran jobs and provide a steady income. The idea behind the business is much like some of the ‘junk to cash’ businesses that provide junk and trash pick-up for people and then turns the ‘junk’ items into a profit through recycling.”

His commitment to continued service is just one of the many reasons that Operation Homefront is very happy to have him moving into one of our Homes on the Homefront houses.
