Chase and Operation Homefront Give Home to Army Vet

Chase and Operation Homefront were honored to present a mortgage-free home to Army National Guard Sergeant Edward Wester. He received the home as part of the Homes on the Homefront program.

Learn more about Wester:
Edward Wester moved around quite a bit as a youngster, eventually settling in Batesville, Ark. as a teenager. When Edward was growing up, he always felt a chip on his shoulder to prove himself. Immediately following high school, this is why Edward decided to enlist in the Army National Guard in 1993.

Edward served as a combat engineer for the next three years, primarily performing training operations, eventually leaving the military in 1996. After 9/11, Edward felt that it was his duty to enlist again. It took him almost two years to return after the tragedy, but he was the first in his battalion to volunteer to deploy to Iraq.

While deployed, Edward carried out multiple jobs. Between building bridges and barracks, setting explosives, and serving in an EMT-type role he was constantly put in harm’s way. Edward was part of a group that also went on patrol to seek out improvised explosive devices (IEDs). During his deployment, he received multiple injuries that eventually would lead to his medical retirement in 2006.

Edward and his two children have never been able to really settle in anywhere, and after spending the last few years in a two bedroom apartment, personal space has become an issue for his growing son and daughter.

“As the kids have been getting older, the small apartment has become a burden, not allowing any space for the three of us,” said Edward.

The familiy’s new home in Mt. Juliet, Tenn. will provide them with plenty of room to grow, while also finally adding some stability to the family.
“It is a little overwhelming, but quite the blessing to receive this home,” said Edward. “I can’t say thank you enough to all of those involved in this process.”
