OH Villages San Antonio welcomes a visit from Mrs. Margie Ferriter
Recently, Mrs. Margie Ferriter visited Operation Homefront Villages of San Antonio. Mrs Ferriter is the spouse of General Ferriter who is a three-star general in charge of IMCOM-Installation Management Command which is headquartered at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX. During her visit, she learned about our community center and the classes offered to our veterans and their families. She received a tour of the villages and got an inside look at one of our move-in ready apartments. So many families that come to the village do so under stressful circumstances. Such as a family of five living in a one bedroom apartment or hotel room because they have nowhere else to go. At the villages we offer a spacious living environment with all their day to day living essentials included.
During lunch, Mrs. Ferriter met with two of our families Pedro and Brenda Mariscal and Phillip and Natasha Casey, who shared their stories of deployment and their new life at the villages. Pedro completed three tours in Iraq. During his third tour, he suffered a traumatic medical condition and had to undergo 26 surgeries. This young father of three considers his recovery nothing short of a miracle. During his recovery, much stress was put on his wife Brenda who speaks very little English. Most of the family was living together in a single room at a local hotel for nearly a year. As a result, she suffered a brain aneurysm and then a stroke, leaving the left side of her body weakened. The family was mentally and physically exhausted. Now they live at the San Antonio Villages in a three-bedroom fully furnished apartment. They have the support of the other families and a safe place to call home during their recovery.
While walking with his squad in Afghanistan, Phillip knelt down to mark a cleared a path. His knee set off a device that took his entire right leg. He spent five months at BAMC and once released began his recovery process with his wife Natasha and their young daughter in a one bedroom hotel room. The Casey family are our newest residents at the villages and we are happy to have and help them during this stressful time.
We were thrilled to have Mrs. Ferriter as our guest and our families were excited to have a member of the community come to listen and witness their amazing accomplishments.
