Army Staff Sgt. Fabian Hall has had a passion for cooking since he was a child. He grew up watching his grandmother cook and picked up many skills and recipes from her. His mother would often work late at night so Fabian started experimenting in the kitchen and cooking for her at the young age of 14. While in high school, his English teacher made him write an essay answering the question "Where do you see yourself in 10 years?" At the ripe age of 18, Fabian could go anywhere or do anything but when it came to answering his essay he saw a career in the military focusing on food service.
As a cook, he entered many competitions and worked hard to be promoted. He taught the other soldiers new skills he acquired from his deployments and transfers. Fabian really enjoyed his time in Hawaii where he learned more about preparing fresh and healthier meals. He went on to serve 14 years in the military before being diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma during his second tour in Iraq. After completing his chemotherapy, Fabian came to Operation Homefront were he was able to rest and regain his focus for himself and his family. Now a single father of two boys, he is completing his degree at the Art Institute of San Antonio and preparing to start his own catering business.
"I love to cook everything! Pastas, steak, seafood ... but I really enjoy preparing healthy meals that taste amazing!"
Fabian gives much praise to his girlfriend who is teaching him the art of traditional Latin cuisine. "She is helping me evolve in my craft and love for cooking."
