Back-To-School Brigade Preps Kids for Success

For 3-year-old Liberty, the most exciting part about her backpack this year is its appearance.

“It’s princess,” she said coyly, while waiting to jump in a bounce house on the lawn of the Operation Homefront Kentucky/Tennessee office.

For her mother Constance Singleton, it was not only the backpack – but what it contained – that meant so much. Her children, including 5-year-old Genesis and 2-year-old Eddonis, clung by her side at the Back to School Brigade event, Wednesday morning, where Soldiers’ children received free school supplies for the upcoming year.

“Well right now money’s kind of hard, so this is helping out a lot,” said Singleton, whose husband Eddie is currently deployed with the 101st Human Resource Company, 101st Special Troops Battalion, 101st Sustainment Brigade. “This is my first time. My friend told me about this, so I’m so grateful to even be here at the event. I’m just glad – it’s just a big help. It’s a lot of money that I don’t have to spend out of my pocket.”
