PARADE Magazine Update!
A year ago, PARADE asked, "Can you help?"—and boy, did you answer the call. In their November 21, 2011, issue, they spotlighted 10 deserving charities, from a food bank in the Northwest to a struggling school district in the South and even the U.S. Olympic team. Operation Homefront and the Hooah Lounge were one of those 10.
The result? PARADE readers' outpouring of support was astonishing. Read on to find out how your generosity has affected Operation Homefront and the people we help — and how we can still use your help.
In 2011, PARADE wrote of our plan to relocate the closed Hooah lounge, a popular gathering place for Iraq and Afghanistan vets, after its previous home (the Walter Reed Army Medical Center) was shuttered. PARADE readers and other donors were so generous that the project grew to three separate lounges, each dedicated to a deceased soldier. The first lounge will be completed by the end of this year; your contributions helped pay for construction, buy furniture, games, and electronics to outfit the rooms.
Looking forward, Operation Homefront continues to support military families in need and has launched a "CONNECTION" program, which allows donors to include a photo or story of a friend or family member who has served—a way of telling the recipients they're not alone. Find out more at:
