Meet Laurie Gallo
Chair of the Caregivers Committee
Laurie Gallo, has made a career supporting the military through her involvement in the intelligence community. After 911, she was looking to do more. "I wanted to help," said Laurie. After listening to a radio interview of wounded warriors and how they benefited from Operation Homefront, she decided to get involved which led to a position on the Operation Homefront DC Metro Chapter Board of Directors.
After serving her term and leaving the Board, she become Chair of the Caregivers Committee. The committee, is specifically concerned with easing the extreme stress and pressure experienced by the caregivers of the wounded. Caregivers, referred to as Non-Medical Attendants (NMA) can be a spouse, sibling, parent or fried. More often than not, these NMAs quit their jobs or leave their families and relocate to be close to the wounded as they rehabilitate and return to civilian life. As you can imagine, this creates a financial burden that many cannot absorb. The Caregivers Committee seeks to raise awareness of this problem and promotes financial and emotional support for these special people.
