Hooters – NYC Embraces White House’s Initiative to Support Troops and Hosts Fundraiser for Operation Homefront of New York/New Jersey

New York, NY May 11, 2011-- In the wake of the White House’s recent announcement of the new Joining Forces initiative, which aims to mobilize all sectors of society to give service members and their families the opportunities and support they have earned, Hooters,, NYC will be doing its part when they host a Fleet Week fundraiser to benefit Operation Homefront of New York/New Jersey.

On Friday, May 27th, from 6-10pm, in the spirit of this initiative Hooters (located at 211 West 56th Street) will be hosting a fundraiser to show support for our troops overseas, their families, and Operation Homefront- NY/NJ. There will be raffles and assorted prizes for vets and service members and a chance to meet with some of our service members. All proceeds made from the raffles will go directly to benefit.

“The event takes place during Fleet Week, a grand tradition since 1984 that allows New Yorkers to meet Sailors, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen meet in one of the greatest cities in the world and enjoy all thing s New York. Fleet Week attracts thousands of service members, their families and civilians and we hope to make this the biggest fundraiser for Operation Homefront of New York/New Jersey to date. This is a great opportunity to create awareness about our organization and an even better way to say “thank you” to those who serve our country and protect our freedom,” stated Alison La Ferlita, chapter president for the New York/New Jersey chapter.

Operation Homefront is a national nonprofit that provides emergency financial and other assistance to the families of our service members and wounded warriors.  These services include auto repair, moving assistance, gifts of furniture and food, as well as much more.  The recent news that about 5,000 soldiers from the New York Reserves will be deployed during the 2011 Holiday Season means that the services of Operation Homefront will be in even more demand.

The Joining Forces initiative focuses on three areas: employment, education, and wellness.  The goal is to spark action from citizens, communities, businesses, non-profits, faith based institutions, philanthropic organizations, and government to help service members and their families achieve these three goals.

There is a growing recognition among the administration and the New York City community of the debt that is owed to soldiers serving overseas. Organizations such as Operation Homefront are dedicated to providing citizens the ability to help the service members in their area.
